Challenge

mal has supported non-dutch speaking newcomers for about 50 years now. They guide them through a personalised trajectory, to help them comfortably find their place in Gent. They had to explain the course ahead an infinite time per day, which prompted them to make a series of videos instead. Key factors were inclusive design and the visuals needed maximum legibility across cultures.

Solution

We wanted the mood to be light and friendly, yet informative enough. Civic integration is an exhausting and complex process as is. We use photos and a collage animation style for easy legibility. As of 2026, the videos have been translated in 20+ languages ranging from Bulgarian to Farsi.
